David Sun started his group, SundanceX in 2013 as a classically based company in the Greater Boston/NH area.The group has successfully performed in the Boston area as well as in Vermont, Newport RI, New Jersey, & New York City. His latest work, Wings of Water, was made to Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Cello Suite in G minor, Op. 19, Andante. It premiered in Boston with Boston Ballet’s Deanna Pearson, on whom it was created, at Tony William’s invitation to guest with City Ballet of Boston’s production in Oct. 2023. It was performed again in June 2024, at the José Mateo’s Ballet Theatre’s 2024 Dance for the World Community Festival in Cambridge MA with another Boston Ballet dancer, Brooke Wilson – who initially studied with Edra Toth, for the eighth consecutive year. Aiva Berrigan of Virginia National Ballet & David Sun’s former student, performs it at Lila Festival this season.
He studied with the late Richard Thomas and Barbara Fallis at the New York School of Ballet after attending Boston Conservatory of Music, both on scholarship. He performed as a dancer with the Houston Grand Opera, and with numerous regional groups in New York and New England. He has taught ballet extensively throughout the Northeast region, including at Boston Ballet under Bruce Marks’ and AnnMarie Holmes’ administration, Boston College, Boston University, Harvard University, and local studios in Massachusetts and New Hampshire including now at Edra Toth’s Northeastern Ballet Theatre.
